Courtney will be presenting a special new project - TRANSITION IN TRADITION - A Tribute to Sidney Bechet at selected UK venues
"Why Bechet? Why not? He was the first jazz saxophonist star and I believe jazz icons like this should never be forgotten" Courtney Pine 2007
This legendary New Orleans Saxophonist first inspired Courtney back in the early 80's when he first heard Sidney playing the standard 'Summertime'. After researching he discovered that sometime in the 20's Bechet travelled and found a silver soprano saxophone in a London store, Sidney bought the horn and the rest is history. By reflecting on the tremendous legacy of this inspirational virtuoso, Courtney Pine is hoping to reflect on 'Transition in Tradition', in other words - the legacy of jazz is an on-going, ever developing art.
